Met Gala's over-the-top looks from a night of camp

by Vera • 07 May 2019

This year's "Camp: Notes on Fashion" theme is sure to deliver a bout of wild, over-the-top red carpet moments.

The Costume Institute Gala at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art is the biggest event on the fashion fundraising calendar. Founded by publicist Eleanor Lambert, the benefit was first held in 1948 to encourage donations from New York's high society.

It is the prom of fashion, where fashionistas are encouraged to go over the top and be the most extravagant, even if sometimes the outfit doesn't align itself with the theme.

As the theme is something, you cannot wear, Vogue has defined it through feathers, bright and shiny colors which posited different ways in which the concept could be construed.

These are our choices for this year, some of them have great stylings and some only pretty dresses (or suits).

Rapper Cardi B showed up to the Met Gala in a dramatic burgundy gown that extended into a full quilted circular train. The dress, which is trimmed in feathers, was designed by Thom Browne. She also has a matching headpiece on to complete the head-to-toe scarlet look. The dress was decorated with 30,000 feathers and took 35 people more than 2,000 hours to make.
